MelScrobble 0.1 for Windows Released

April 10, 2010 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment

Also works with Winamp

After hours of work, I got most of the functions down except Anime detection, which is a bit more complicated. Besides that, Music detection and manually typing in what you are watching works along with the scrobbling functions.

If you really want to test it out, the first alpha can be downloaded at MelScrobble’s Github Download Page. Once you download the file, click on the installer and follow the instructions. MelScrobble requires the .net Framework 3.5… It should be installed on Vista SP2 and 7, but XP users may have to install this if it is not installed already. The program will not run without it.

After you install it, find MelScrobble on the Start Menu and start it. Right click on the Melative Logo on the icon tray and click Settings. Click on the Login Tab and do what is shown below. It will verify your account info, create a cookie and save it in the Application. Your username and password is not saved in the program as a security measure.

To make the music detection working you need to install AMIP (Advanced mIRC Integration Plugin) to use the detection feature. It will support popular music players like Winamp, foobar2000 and iTunes (Yeah, iTunes… lol). Once you have installed the appropriate plugin, all you need to do is select “Music” from the media type menu and press detect. It should output the track name, album and artist. All you need is either type a message and scrobble/post it. If you attempt to detect an Anime mediatype, it won’t work since it is not implemented yet.

If you close the scrobble window, it will hide to the tray. Double click on the Melative Logo to bring it up again or right click and click on “Show/Hide Scrobble Window.” To exit the program, do the same, but select “Exit MelScrobble”

Anyways, the program itself is changing, so features are subject to change. Give suggestions on how to improve the program or such. If you encounter any bugs, file them at the project’s github.

I did it again!

Do you see the difference?

I discovered the power of NSStatusItem and UIElement options that made it possible to get rid of the MelScrobbleX Dock Icon and put it on the Menubar. The window can be shown and hidden at any time and it will retain your datas entered like Media/Segment until you quit out of the program. Don’t worry though, the Preferences and Check for Updates options are still accessible by clicking the Melative Logo on top of the menubar. Still, more improvements need to be done before I release the alpha version of the program…

Introducing MelScrobblerX, a new Melative Scrobbler for Macs

March 24, 2010 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment

MelScrobblerX is a new project I have been working on. Used to be Melative Cocoa Test aka Melative Example, which is a sample Melative Microblogging client pretty much the same to Melative Library’s Media Microblogging, but without the stream. However, I decided to expand the project and added iTunes track detection… Heck, why not just make its own program… and I did… I renamed it to MelScrobblerX

MelScrobblerX is different from the ActionStatus that RyanA is currently working on. MelScrobblerX is written in Objective-C and Cocoa and I still learning that darn language… It’s pretty darn powerful if you know what you are doing and there is alot of resources on it. Anyways, it differs from ActionStatus not only because it’s a native program, but it uses different methods in obtaining the played media. Since most Anime bloggers who uses Mac would use iTunes and MPlayer OS X Extended, I decided I will only support those, but support for other media players like Play can be added later, providing they support the Scripting Bridge with Applescript. MelScrobblerX will use powerful frameworks, OmniFrameworks and Sparkle for updating. Also, MelScrobblerX will use a HUD window so that it cause little distraction when you play media and stuff.

MelScrobbler will only work on Mac OS X 10.5 or higher, but compatible with existing PowerPC and Intel Macs as it will be a Universal Binary.

No actual release of MelScrobblerX is out yet since there is still alot of work to be done on it such as adding Preferences, Keychain support to store Username/Password, MPlayer support and other behind the scene stuff.

If you want to experiment what I have done so far, be my guest and head to the project’s github to obtain a copy. Be warned… This app is still in active development and can change at anytime and I’m not responsible for any damages you do with the program on the computer or with your Melative account.

Random Curiosity – Rest in Peace

R.I.P. November 2004 - March 2010

Well, unexpected this morning, the owner of the blog, Omni decided that he will stop blogging at the end of the month saying that although he didn’t wanted to, he stated that he has a new life and that he will be getting his masters degree and getting a new job. Well, his work from the standpoint of looking at it is time consuming, as taking those snapshots and writing a long synopsis post is a very big feat and time consuming. However, the blog itself is going to be missed by the Anime Blogging community by many. I just use it as a reference or perhaps I used it to keep track of Kampfer and how bad it’s going to be without watching it.

I wish Omni luck with his future and hopefully another replacement will come in the future to fill that missing hole.

Melative Library 0.9.6 is Released

March 20, 2010 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment

Yes, I haven’t updated this program for almost two weeks, but it’s okay. This is because RyanA was working on a new API method, library/record, which combines segment, rating and state apis together. Therefore, library/update, library/segment/update and library/update_rating apis are deprecated. It’s recommended for all users of Melative Library to upgrade to 0.9.6 as soon as possible as these old api methods will be turned off someday.

MAL Client OS X 1.0.2 will be released shortly to address this issue with users who have Melative Updating enabled.

Changelog:

  • Melative Library uses library/record instead legacy update functions for rating, segment and state updating.
  • Fixed MAL Manga List importing

Download Melative Library 0.9.6

Melative Library requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher or Windows XP SP2, Vista or 7 with Internet Explorer 7 or higher installed or Linux (libwebkit install recommended)

For users have it already, on Windows and Linux, it should notify you once you login and on Mac OS X, users can install this update by doing Melative Library > Check for Updates and have Sparkle download and install the update automatically.

Shiori's Diary and Disqus

March 19, 2010 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment

You might be wondering, what happened to the theme? Well, I had to make some… errrr modifications to make this work, but the end result will be better. This allows additional features to be added that wasn’t possible before like Threaded Comments (Don’t know why the theme doesn’t support them, but okay), OpenID/Twitter Login and other stuff.

You can try it out below, but if you aren’t logged in with an identity such as OpenID, Twitter or a Disqus account, I need to first approve your first post, and thereafter it should approve automatically… Anyways, report any bugs if they occur. However, Chikorita157’s Anime Blog will still continue to use the WordPress Comment System.
