The Takeaway: Romney was aggressive in the debates with his barrage of blatant lies while Obama remains calm and sticks to the facts.
Needless to say, I don’t like to talk about politics since it gets downright dirty. Still, I like to share some thoughts because it’s obvious from my posts that I am a rabid liberal after changing my political views as a result of Bush’s failures. After watching the debates, I think none of the candidates won besides the real loser being the moderator himself from being interrupted several times. While the media tries to spin it into Romney favor, I didn’t think he won. Sure, he was more aggressive compared to Obama, but he told a lot of blatant whoppers that fact checkers debunked before. Lies such as the deficit Obama created, the denial of the 5 trillion-dollar tax cuts that he promoted, $700 billion cuts from Medicare (which is actually future projections) that Paul Ryan also proposes to name a few. I’m pretty sure there is more, but that is beside the point. Basically, he inherently gave ammunition to Obama by dumping all these lies in one debates and it will certainly bite him in the later debates. Not only that, Romney gave no specifics on his tax plans and replacement to the Affordable Care Act, which is troubling.
Aside from that, it’s obvious that Obama is trying to play it safe since the economy is one of the issues he is weak on. Also, he is probably trying to get a feeling of what kind of debater Romney is. Even so, I think he will have a comeback in the next two debates from his experiences in this one. For now, the vice presidential debate is next week and I expect Biden to be more aggressive against Ryan compared to the dovish tone Obama had last night.
