Thoughts concerning the first Presidential Debate

October 4, 2012 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment

The Takeaway: Romney was aggressive in the debates with his barrage of blatant lies while Obama remains calm and sticks to the facts.

Needless to say, I don’t like to talk about politics since it gets downright dirty. Still, I like to share some thoughts because it’s obvious from my posts that I am a rabid liberal after changing my political views as a result of Bush’s failures. After watching the debates, I think none of the candidates won besides the real loser being the moderator himself from being interrupted several times. While the media tries to spin it into Romney favor, I didn’t think he won. Sure, he was more aggressive compared to Obama, but he told a lot of blatant whoppers that fact checkers debunked before. Lies such as the deficit Obama created, the denial of the 5 trillion-dollar tax cuts that he promoted, $700 billion cuts from Medicare (which is actually future projections) that Paul Ryan also proposes to name a few. I’m pretty sure there is more, but that is beside the point. Basically, he inherently gave ammunition to Obama by dumping all these lies in one debates and it will certainly bite him in the later debates. Not only that, Romney gave no specifics on his tax plans and replacement to the Affordable Care Act, which is troubling.

Aside from that, it’s obvious that Obama is trying to play it safe since the economy is one of the issues he is weak on. Also, he is probably trying to get a feeling of what kind of debater Romney is. Even so, I think he will have a comeback in the next two debates from his experiences in this one. For now, the vice presidential debate is next week and I expect Biden to be more aggressive against Ryan compared to the dovish tone Obama had last night.

Brief Thoughts on Steve Jobs passing away…

October 5, 2011 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment

I just heard that Steve Jobs passed away and it’s sad. Just remembering a few years back when one of our relatives passed away with pancreatic cancer, which is incurable. Either way, he is going to be missed, considering how much he contributed to computing and the mobile industry. I give my condolences to his family.

TSA hits a new low… and it’s outrageous!

June 27, 2011 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment

As you might have known back in November of last year, I have posted a rant about the intrusive pat downs and body scanning and why they are so intrusive. If touching little children isn’t enough, don’t worry… you will get outraged by this:

TSA stands by officers after pat-down of elderly woman in Florida

When I heard about it, I got outraged considering the fact that they forced a cancer stricken grandmother to take off her diaper who is probably going trough a lot of stress already. She doesn’t need to go through any more trouble than she needs to. Also, common sense will tell you that this grandmother isn’t a terrorist, especially at this state, so they could have just exempt her and let her be. Unfortunately, the TSA doesn’t care about the moral repercussions and go ahead with it anywhere. This is the part that got me really angry.

I feel that the policy needs to be changed so that the elderly and children doesn’t have to deal with the mental scaring of pat downs. I know airport security is important, but they need to have common sense and sensitivity, which there is a lack of it ever since they implement these pat downs. Also, these intrusive pat downs needs phased out completely and we should just stick to body scanners and train TSA agents to detect suspicious behavior of a terrorist. Otherwise, we should just boycott flying and stick to alternative modes of transportation until the TSA changes their ways.

Thoughts on Osama Bin Laden’s Death

May 2, 2011 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment

It’s been over 9 years since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. When the tragedy happened, I was in the 5th grade and I didn’t fully understand since I was so song. The only thing I knew is that it was a despicable act and apparently, Osama Bin Laden was the mastermind behind the attacks.

Ever since, the United States were not able to catch him even though he was believed to be in the caves in Pakistan. Last night, the Navy Seals stormed the building where Bin Laden was hiding and killed him. To me, the news of his death was a big delight since he finally got apprehended for doing a horrible deed and abusing his religion to carry his radical agenda. While the war on terrorism is far from over, I felt that this was a big victory for the United States and course President Obama and his staff for making the operation a success… I congratulate them.

Moment of Silence

March 11, 2011 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment

It seems that 2011 has brought on a string of unfortunate events like last year. Few weeks back, New Zealand has been hit with an earthquake that cause a lot of damage. This morning at our time, an 8.9 magnitude earthquake has hit 370 km north of Tokyo with hundreds or perhaps thousands dead after this is all done and over. It also caused a tsunami that will hit other countries, Hawaii and California.

I give my condolences to all the people, collages, etc who are affected by the earthquake and we should give our full support with the recovery efforts.

My Thoughts on the Tragic Incident at Rutgers

September 30, 2010 by chikorita157 11 Comments

If you have not seen my tweet that I posted last night, a freshman boy from Rutgers (New Brunswick campus) committed suicide (jumping off the George Washington Bridge) on September 22 over some indecent videos that a boy and a girl took over a webcam without the boy knowing. The indecent video involved a sex tape of the said freshman guy having sex with another guy and being leaked to the public. This wasn’t revealed until just recently.

I have to say; this was probably the most immoral and stupidest prank that a boy and a girl pulled on an innocent boy. It was not funny at all and I feel sorry for the parents who have to deal with their tragic loss of their son because it’s something that should never had happen. I hope that the perpetrators get severely punished for their horrid act and they are most likely going to be expelled from college…

It makes me wonder, what was gained from doing this horrible act? Absolutely nothing considering that their futures are completely ruined and they could never re-attend school or get a job since they have a criminal record. If I was them, was it really worth it pulling this prank that you think its funny even though it would result in a tragic loss? Absolutely not…

Social media is taking a big part in people lives. As a result, it makes cyber-bullying acts like these easier to carry out and hurtful more than ever. Colleges, High schools or perhaps the government really needs to pass some kind of cyber bullying law and prevention programs to prevent something like this from happening, since it is only going to get worse.
