If you have not seen my tweet that I posted last night, a freshman boy from Rutgers (New Brunswick campus) committed suicide (jumping off the George Washington Bridge) on September 22 over some indecent videos that a boy and a girl took over a webcam without the boy knowing. The indecent video involved a sex tape of the said freshman guy having sex with another guy and being leaked to the public. This wasn’t revealed until just recently.
I have to say; this was probably the most immoral and stupidest prank that a boy and a girl pulled on an innocent boy. It was not funny at all and I feel sorry for the parents who have to deal with their tragic loss of their son because it’s something that should never had happen. I hope that the perpetrators get severely punished for their horrid act and they are most likely going to be expelled from college…
It makes me wonder, what was gained from doing this horrible act? Absolutely nothing considering that their futures are completely ruined and they could never re-attend school or get a job since they have a criminal record. If I was them, was it really worth it pulling this prank that you think its funny even though it would result in a tragic loss? Absolutely not…
Social media is taking a big part in people lives. As a result, it makes cyber-bullying acts like these easier to carry out and hurtful more than ever. Colleges, High schools or perhaps the government really needs to pass some kind of cyber bullying law and prevention programs to prevent something like this from happening, since it is only going to get worse.

Stop bullying me.

I don’t think there was a reason to suicide over this, but the pressure is massively increased when considering the social media :<
(I like the color scheme btw)

I think the pressure came when the video was broadcasted to the web via iChat (which is an instant messaging and video conferencing client on Mac OS X). Since he couldn’t deal with the embarrassment, this is why it happened. I don’t really know the full detail, but social media could be dangerous if used improperly.
Discrimination against homosexuals is a real problem because some people has a big intolerance for them. It’s really sad to see something like this happen because of the bigots in the world who believe that having a different sexual orientation is bad. I loath people who are intolerant to different sexual orientations (besides being straight) as those who are against minorities.

You must loathe a lot of people.

No, only the bigots…
The truth is… everyone is prejudiced, but most people don’t show it publicly.

I think cyber bulling laws would make a huge difference. At least people would think twice.

I do think they need to pass new legislation while educating students about cyberbullying like they do with bullying…
New Jersey is pretty strict on bullying and it’s technically illegal to bully or harass people in the state. Sadly, they never really get enforced since school administrations are so corrupt.
Also, this is the full NJ law the two students broke in full detail: http://www.samsachs.com/crimlaws/2c_14-9.shtml
