I decided to make this tutorial video since some people had trouble setting up WP-Super Cache. This video will give you a step by step tutorial on setting up WP-Super Cache for those who are inexperienced with Wordpress.

I tried to get Movable Type to work on my test bed server and I can’t even get the database to work. DBD::mysql fails to install and SQLite refuses to work. It is very apparent that it doesn’t want me to install Movable Type…
Not that it’s a big deal since Wordpress will always kick Movable Type’s butt even after you install a caching plugin.
P2 Mod for mandigo theme is now available from Github. Since P2 is licensed on the GPLv2, the mod is licensed under the same license. Follow the instructions in the readme to make it work…

I have learned the hard way when I try to change all the URLs to the new domain. Apparently, phpmyadmin I’m using don’t export the whole table, so I only have like half the posts exported and the other half missing. Luckily, I was able to recover it from MacJournal (blogging software) and Google Reader and Cache.
No user should ever have to mess with the Wordpress tables. If you do… you are asking for trouble. If you want to change the URLs, just export all your posts with the built in exporter, replace the old URLs with the new one and import them back in… I learned that the hard way…
So if you get a new domain and need to change the urls, use that route… not export the WP_Posts table and fiddle around with it.
Tumblr is a popular blogging service that adds the following aspect. I don’t see whats special about it since there is nothing that I can’t do in Wordpress and then some. Sure it does not show who is following your blog, but its tenfolds more powerful than Tumblr will ever be…
One of the things that bother me is custom themes. Wordpress, it’s really easy to create a child theme of a theme and customize the crap out of it. On the other hand, Tumblr custom HTML system is a mess as you see bellow:
The lack of separate template files makes the code a lot more complicated… meaning you will be pulling your hairs out trying to make your own theme. Also, there are well established Mobile Themes on Wordpress that provides smartphone users a better experience compared to Tumblr, which the site only provides a basic mobile theme.
Not to mention, Tumblr, unlike other blogging software does not have a built in commenting system. The user must use a third party service like Disqus or IntenseDebate to feed in the comments. The drawback is, if the commenting service goes down, there goes your comments.
The posting functionalities of tumblr can also be done with Wordpress and P2 Theme. P2 is perfect for a sideblog or a tumblr like blog, which gives you an instant posting interface right on the home page! Wordpress can also do the reblogging stuff with the “Press This” bookmarklet.
Tumblr in the end is a simple blogging platform for casual use, nothing else. Wordpress will always provide a better experience, especially if a blogger is already running a self-hosted Wordpress on their site. With Wordpress 3.0, the blogger can just enable multisites and create their own “Tumblr” blog of their own and use the same Wordpress plugins and theme in the same installation. Wordpress is just more powerful and benefits the blogger more than tumblr and can insure their ownership of the content. This is important because most services, they can do anything with your content and you can’t do anything about it. For instance, they can use your content to sell to advertisers and stuff like it.
Overall, do Anime Bloggers need to get pulled into the Tumblr hype? The answer is no, but its up to you. If you really want a sideblog or a “Tumblr” like blog, just convert your own existing installation of Wordpress to a Multisite installation and create your sideblog from there. If you interested, just follow the directions from Wordpress and you will have it up in no time.
Wordpress can sometimes put some pressure onto the server, especially when there is a lot of hits. To prevent slowdowns of blogs, its always a good idea to install some sort of caching plugin to make pages load faster. These plugins basically cache the pages as HTML files. This way, Wordpress don’t have to generate the page every time a visitor views it.
The two most popular caching plugins used by Anime bloggers is WP Super Cache and W3 Total Cache. Both of them pretty much give the same amount performance, but W3 Total Cache allows the use of CDN networks. Unless you have one, there is really no advantage to use it over Super Cache.
To install Super Cache, login to your Wordpress Dashboard > Plugins > Add Plugin. Search for WP Super Cache and then install and activate the plugin.
Note: If you are using WPtouch 1.9.x/2.0, follow the settings on this screenshot.
Once activated, go to Settings > WP Super Cache. If you are not using Bad Behavior or mobile plugins, go ahead and set the Super Cache to ON. If you are using Bad Behavior or Mobile Plugins, you need to set Super Cache “Half ON.”
In addition to the new settings, you may also want to check “Don’t cache pages for known users,” “Clear all cache files when post or page is published” and “Cache rebuild” for a better experience.
Once you have finished setting the desired options, click “Update Status” above the Cache Tester. Afterwards, WP Super Cache should be turned on and pages on your blog should load a lot faster.
The child theme for Chikorita157’s Anime Blog is made available at Github under the GPLv3. To use it, install Thematic and the child theme. Afterwards, activate the child theme. You may modify the theme as much as you want, but you must keep the credit of the theme in tact.

If you ready to provide a mobile site, there is WPTouch 1.9.x*, Wordpress Mobile Edition and Wordpress Mobile Pack and it doesn’t cost anything to add.

WP Super Cache is a must have plugin to prevent your host from suspending you for using too much resource. However, mobile theme plugins like WPTouch won’t load because it bypasses the browser detection. To solve this, you need to have the following set:
