Question 1

Have you met any friends from the anime blogosphere offline before? (ie: met them up for meal, to attend Convection, etc)

Answer: Not yet… There aren’t that many anibloggers I can meet considering the vast majority are in California and nobody likes New Jersey.

Question 2

Who’s the one character you’d want to go to the zoo with?

Answer: Funny question… Obviously Yunno from MM since she loves animals…

(I’m totally serious…) probably Nayuki too, but keep her away from the cats.

Question 3

What is your favorite font(s) that you use?

Answer: For formal use (Blogs, Homework, etc): Helvetica Neue (or Helvetica, although Neue is prefered), Droid Sans and Myriad Pro.
Casual: Tekton Pro, Cafisch Script. No Comic Sans since I HATE THAT FONT and it should die.

Question 4

If you could have your hair washed with pleasure by an anime or manga or whatever character, who would you choose?

Answer: Tsukimiya Ayu… clumsy girls are good at washing hair, right? :p

Question 5

You can place 6 items in an emergency kit, what do you put inside? (not necessarily an injury or accident emergency kit, just something to have in most dire/stressful situations)

Answer: Money, Macbook Pro, iPhone, some food, a swiss knife, rope

Question 6

Would you prefer to watch the sun set from the beach or atop a mountain?

Answer: Beach. I’m afraid of heights… (not really, but yeah, less effort)

Question 7

What do you feel the difference is between shipping and OTP, if any?

Answer: Not much of a shipper since its nasty stuff… but OTP is the only true couple that can happen and nothing else. Shipping can be pretty much anything.

Question 8

Which J-POP singer/Japanese band you have heard is the absolute worst?

Answer: From experience, I have to say Konno Hirom is the worst singer from the songs I ever heard. Girls Dead Monster is also up there too.

Question 9

Would you ever name your desktop/laptop after a tsundere? If so, which one?

Answer: I name my Late 2008 Macbook Pro Fujibayashi Kyou… now I am regretting that decision as it giving me troubles.

FYI, I name my computers after my favorite anime characters, mostly female.

Zakuro – Informal Thoughts about Episode 1… or Imperialism sucks!

Imperialism bites… and most people will agree, it sucks to have someone else come out of nowhere and take over your country.

Like milk, foreigners are usually hostile to the people who are colonizing on their land… Back when countries like England and the United States taking over other people’s countries in the 19th centry, they usually steal the country’s treasures and bring it back to their own country. China is one of the well-known examples where the colonists took their artifacts and treasures away.

Imperialism also forces the colonist’s culture down everyone’s throat. Most people are usually against it and will revolt. The milk example brought up and analyzed by Aorii pretty deeply proves the shoving down a culture down someone’s throat. I’m pretty interested how the girls would react to the army’s shoving down of their culture in future episodes… or rather the opposite.

Otherwise, I am enjoying this show… sure there is a tsundere since it’s a JC Staff production, but at least it’s not the stereotypical tsunderes I have seen in Hayate no Gotoku or other shows.

And yes, I like the opening… it’s so catchy and fun to listen to.

The Tsundere Laptop

I hardly had any issues with my Apple products since my Late 2006 Macbook Pro (Tohno Minagi) is still holding up along with my iPhone and my iPad. However, my Late 2008 Macbook Pro named Fujibayashi Kyou is being a bit tsun tsun lately. I had these issues after I brought the laptop two years ago:

  • Screen defect (bright dot). Was replaced with another screen
  • Wireless card issues (Wireless networks frequently dropped), replaced by another Airport Card. Still happening
  • Dust under screen, more wifi problems. Screen and wireless card replaced yet again. Wireless issues went away.

Did not cost me anything since I have extended warranty.

After I got my screen and wireless card replaced, now the whole screen blinks for a second with the integrated graphics mode. This would happen sporadically and it could become very annoying. Also, it was something that never happened to me before. Yet again, I brought the computer back for more repairs for those issues including the weak hinge. Now Apple is going to replace the logic board, screen and wireless card to see if that fix the problem. If I get it back and it still have the same issues or the problems get even worse, I am going to demand a replacement… and next time, I will not name it after a tsundere since you know what happens… Hell breaks loose.

News Corp is at it again, trying to pull an ABC on Cablevision.

Well, this doesn’t came as a surprise since other TV providers like Time Warner and the rip-off Dish Network are having the same problems with Broadcasting companies like Fox. It seems that Fox, owned by News Corp. wants more money from Cablevision when they already make a lot of money. Now they want to pull Fox Network from Cablevision tomorrow in protest. It makes me wonder, how low could News Corp. go? I bet they needed the 80 million dollars to support the GOP campaign and the Tea Party, so they needed to raise the transmission fees for Cablevision.

I’m with the providers with this one. It seems that the broadcast companies are becoming too greedy. The increased broadcasting costs are only going to get passed down to the customers, which always seem to get shafted.

Also, don’t say that it only happens to cable providers, it can happen to any TV provider. So, if they think I am going to switch away from Cablevision, the answer is no. In the end of the day, it’s the same old shit and satellite providers rip you off more than cable providers. So why bother?

Too bad this didn’t affect Fox News…

WPTouch Pro 2.1 First Impressions

I have been using WPTouch Pro since June 2010 since I am a heavy user of my iPhone and it works great. It allows me to use threaded comments when I write comments on the iPhone and load the site without waiting it to load. Mobile Themes are becoming more important since AT&T and soon Verizon would be getting rid of Unlimited Data Plans. As a result, having an optimized site for mobile users will use the data plan more efficiently since its not loading all the bloat from the full theme.

Today, BraveNewCode has released a beta of WPTouch Pro 2.1 that adds iPad support along with other features. Overall, it captures the multitouch experience rather nicely even though it wasn’t necessary since the desktop theme loaded fine. Even so, I wanted to provide users options.

Its worth nothing that this theme isn’t limited to iPad, but it works on the Amazon Kindle too. In the future, they will probably add support for the Samsung Galaxy Tab and RIM’s BlackBerry Playbook. I’m quite interested on how WPTouch iPad theme would operate on these devices.

Even though there is an iPad theme called Padpress, I decided against that since it costs too much money and I knew that the guys at BraveNewCode would make the iPad browsing experience better for a lot less ($29 opposed to $49).

Chikorita157’s Anime Blog and Shiori’s Diary has the iPad theme enabled, so go ahead and try it out for yourself if you own a iPad or a Kindle.

Kokidokom is down… again!

The last time I saw Kokidokom going down was like a whole month and a week ago as told by Author of Ani-Nouto. Unfortunately, the site went down again today as a result of BlueHost suspension. The suspension of Kokidokom’s host brought down anime blogs like Simplicity, Anime Princess, Hey Say Anime, Anime^2, and Metanorn.

When the sites grow bigger, shared hosting may not be feasible anymore. In some cases, site suspension can be the shared host’s fault depending on their strict policy on resource usage even if they provide “Unlimited” bandwidth and storage. Zzeroparticle of Anime Instrumentality Blog experienced this for several months when his host complained about the excessive RAM usage. The strange thing is that his site was only generating 400 visitors per day. The number of visitors that size can’t possibly generate a very high CPU and RAM usage even with a caching plugin enabled. Eventually, he moved the site to WPWebHost and haven’t had any problems ever since.

Perhaps Kokidokom needs to switch to a more reliable host to get rid of this suspension problem once and for all. After all, BlueHost were the ones caused havoc to anime blogs when they took down Hinano’s blog for instance.

Update: Kokidokom is now back up.

There is always a downside when it comes…

There is always a downside when it comes to simulcasted anime… It always has a potential that the show would leak to the masses before the airing of the show in Japan. This exact situation happened to Funimation when they were streaming One Piece Episode 403 back in June of last year.

Ironically, ANN cannot escape the same treatment since the leak of Ore No Imouto Ga Konna Ni Kawaii Wake Ga Nai. The second episode of the mention series leaked a day early, which could explain why some of the people are reviewing that said episode a day early. Well, ANN is now investigating the issue so it won’t happen again. It makes you wonder about the security used to protect these streams so that it won’t leak like that.

Update: It seems that the simulcasting of OreImouto is permanently suspended… Yeah, ANN pretty much betrayed the Anime Fandom and hopes for streaming being a better alternative.
