Just this week, I came across a new Liveblog plugin, which makes it easier to make a live blog on a WordPress blog without using the Dashboard and hitting “update” every time you want to make an update. When I thought to my self, this plugin can in fact be a game changer for Anime Bloggers as it opens new possibilities of non-traditional blogging such as…
- Episode Liveblogging – Sure, you can do this on twitter, but you are usually limited by the amount of characters you can publish and tweets don’t stay on forever. With the live blogging plugin, you can easily share brief thoughts while you watch the episode and even upload screenshots of funny scenes on the fly. For people who don’t have time to write a formal post, this can be useful to share short, brief thoughts while watching.
- Interviews – Traditionally, you have to do it through an instant messaging program just so you can interview a blogger or someone. Now, you can do it live by giving yourself and the interviewer live blogging privileges and ask/answer questions on the fly. Most importantly, your audience can see the interview as it happens. However, the entries’ display can make reading the questions/answers difficult since they are in reverse. Hopefully there will be an option to change the sorting in the future.
- Panel Coverage – An obvious one, but you don’t have to resort using the WordPress Dashboard to make updates.
But chikorita157, couldn’t you do this on Twitter?
While Twitter is good for many things, it’s not the solution to everything. Besides the character limits, the tightening of their APIs have made the platform unattractive as they basically throw third-party applications under the bus so they can force users into using the web interface and shove advertisements into the timeline. Also, Twitter makes it very difficult to look for older tweets unless you jump through the hoops and use third-party applications. Keeping the live blog on your blog just makes your content accessible at a later date.
So, if you have a self-hosted WordPress blog, try it for yourself!
